Aspiring Law Student Faces Big Life Challenges With Positivity, Help From Friends (and Berkeley Hope Scholars!). Miriam Yarde was in and out of foster care growing up. Her mom passed away when she was just five, her dad during her first year of college. One might think learning that her kidneys were failing might make her want to quit, but it turns out to be just the opposite.
